WHO IS THIS COURSE SUITABLE FOR?

Severe allergic reactions (anaphylaxis) can kill without immediate first aid. The UK is one of the top countries in the world for incidence of allergies. Those who provide childcare and workplace first aiders who have to deal with those prone to anaphylaxis should also attend.

WHAT IS THE OBJECTIVE OF THE COURSE?

Allergies affect approximately one in three of the UK population and each year numbers grow by 5% with as many as half of those affected being children.

Anaphylaxis is the most severe form of allergic reaction. Common causes are insect stings, foods and some medication. It is life threatening and requires immediate first aid (an auto-injector) and emergency medical assistance.

The likelihood is that someone in your school could have a severe allergy and this must form part of your first aid needs assessment. To find out more about anaphylaxis and the purchase, storage and use of adrenaline auto-injector devices in schools.

This course is approved by Ofqual for anyone who needs training in how and when to use an auto-injector in the treatment of Anaphylaxis.

Learner Outcomes

Prevention, recognition and treatment of severe allergic reactions.

Learner Outcomes includes:-

  • Know how to recognize a casualty with anaphylaxis.
  • Be able to manage a casualty who is breathing normally.
  • Be able to manage a casualty who is not breathing normally.
  • Be able to manage a casualty with anaphylaxis.

Course duration 7 Hours

ASSESSMENT

Continuous observation by the trainer.

CERTIFICATION

Successful candidates receive a Ofqual certificate, valid for three years.
