Individual “Qualitative Face Fit Testing”. This service can be conducted at our premises or in-house at your own premises. Suitable for any brand of disposable respirator or reusable half mask. Wearers must be cleanly shaven to get a good fit with a respirator.
Qualitative fit testing (QLFT) is a pass/fail test based on the wearer’s subjective assessment of any leakage through the face seal region by detecting the introduction of bitter- or sweet-tasting aerosol as a test agent. QLFT methods are suitable for disposable and reusable half masks; they are not suitable for full-face masks. Although this type of test is based on subjective detection and response by the wearer of the RPE, it is important that it is administered by a fit tester competent in using this method.
Face Fit testing is provided by a fully accredited and experienced trainer.
WHAT DOES THE FACE FIT SERVICE ENTAIL?
First of all, the delegates must take the “Taste” test; this is conducted to make sure that the delegate can actually taste the solution, so that the test can be taken properly. The trainer will use two different types of taste solutions, either bitter or sweet, depending on how the person being tested responds.
Secondly, the delegate will take the Fit Test; this involves a series of exercises which are performed to make sure that the mask does not move. The tests include the delegate moving their body and face in different ways to ensure that the mask stays put. The exercises must be repeatedly taken until the delegate cannot taste the solution at all.
When the delegate is tested on a mask the certificate they receive relates specifically to the mask type that works for them. If they decide after the course to use a different mask type the certificate will not be relevant to the mask type they have been tested with.
